Dream State
About this piece
This piece feels fleeting to me but also somehow tangible. It’s a place you visit either physically or in your mind. But it’s not a place you can dwell or hold on to. Maybe it’s meant to be a quick visit, a delicious and necessary reprieve?
I started calling it Dream State because that name evoked its ethereal and earthly nature.
My favorite detail is teal rust on the right side.
My Musing
Wash dishes
Unclench your jaw
Breathe in…breath out
Sit in traffic
Roll your shoulders back
Breath in… breathe out
Read emails
Fret about your waist size
Watch adds
Wonder if you’re in the right job
Eat a snack
Worry about your family
Do laundry
Fear the end of civilization
Scroll, scroll, and scroll
Compare yourself to others
Clean a room
Grind a regret from the past… Is it almost smooth?
Back tense
Chest tight
Stomach twisted
Fingers tingling
Eyes tired
Breathe in… Breathe out
Breathe in… Breathe out
Unclench your jaw
Breathe in… Breathe out
Shake out your hands
Wiggle your hips
Breathe in… Breathe out
Curl and uncurl your toes
Stretch up tall
Stretch down low
Breathe in… Breathe out
For a moment, you are in the moment.
For a moment, you acknowledge the moment without the intention to change it.
For a moment…
Stillness heals
Quiet fortifies
And breath fertilizes
There is new life in this moment.
Something GOOD will grow here.
Not because you WORRIED about it
or MADE it happen
or BOUGHT it.
Simply because goodness is in your soul’s dirt.
Peace simply shines on you.
Beauty grows from you simply.
Breathe in…
Breathe out…
Activities
For my Journalers:
Where is your Dream State? Is it an actual place on earth? Or more a state of mind? Maybe a funky melding of both? Describe it in detail. Writing about this place will likely leave you clues about how to get there more often.
For my creators:
Start a new photo album on your phone and snap pictures throughout the month of moments/scenes that make you feel peaceful or alive. As the month goes on, note the pictures themselves. What surprises you about them? What trends do you notice? Ponder how the act of taking them, reflecting on them, and sharing them has impacted you.
